On October 14, Paris time, the seven-day "Light from China" Paris Fashion Art Week concluded at the WILDE Art Center. Centered on cultural interweaving and creative symbiosis, this international exchange event, which comprised four major sections — a biennale, solo exhibitions, dialogue sessions, and an awards ceremony — attracted over 200 industry elites from China, France, Germany, and other countries. The event welcomed more than 5,000 visitors in total, becoming a notable Eastern cultural highlight of the 2025 European autumn season and adding a vivid footnote to the global outreach of Chinese culture.

It is worth noting that this event was fully planned and executed under the leadership of the International Fashion Art Network (IFAN). This core role not only highlights the alliance's industry influence in the global fashion and art field, but also has deeply imprinted the event with IFAN's core mission of "promoting cross-cultural artistic dialogue and empowering innovation in the fashion industry" since the initial preparation stage. Coinciding with the important milestone of the 10th anniversary of IFAN's establishment, the launch of this Paris Fashion Art Week is not only a concentrated review of the achievements from the alliance's decade-long dedicated efforts, but also a key practice to open a new chapter in international exchanges, and even a new example of the alliance working hand in hand with fashion artists to actively fulfill the era mission of "culture going global", boasting both significant commemorative significance and solid professional depth.

  Interweaving The Future

  2025 Paris Fashion Art Biennale

Cross-disciplinary Creations Interpreted the Core of 'Interweaving'

As the core visual unit of the "Interweaving the Future — 2025 Paris Fashion Art Biennale," dozens of cross-disciplinary fashion art pieces were selected to create a multidimensional tableau of dialogue between Eastern and Western cultures. The exhibition was divided into three major sections: "The Metaverse of the East," "The Symphony of Materials," and "The New Chapter of Tradition." Thirty-three groups of works by thirty-six artists interpreted the theme from three dimensions: digital technology, traditional craftsmanship, and cross-cultural collaboration.

In "The Metaverse of the East" section, artists including Hou Ruoyi, Lan Tian, Luo Jie, Lyu Yue (Aluna) & Jin Xiaoyao, Sun Wenjing, Wang Xinyuan, Xie Mengdi, Yu Qinxuan, and Yu Yimeng deconstructed traditional symbols using the language of the future. Their experimental use of technological materials was stunning, breaking the perception that 'fashion can only be worn,' and making the integration of art and technology an important direction for future fashion.

They presented a “new expression” of “old craftsmanship” and played an infinite symphony that transcends time and space.

Fourteen participating artists were present on-site, guiding the audience through an in-depth experience of diverse creations spanning sustainable design, intangible cultural heritage innovation, and metaverse fashion. Multiple sub-sections of the event resonated with one another, forming a dynamic interplay that culminated in a comprehensive artistic extravaganza—integrating French cultural exchange, fashion showcases, and academic discourse. The grand event blossomed in Paris during the golden autumn of October, with audiences from China and abroad jointly witnessing an artistic feast that transcended culture and time.

The concurrently held "Entre Ciel et Terre" — Lyu Yue (Aluna) Individual Art Exhibition showcased a retrospective of the artist's decades of creation, revealing the depth and resilience of Eastern aesthetics. Professor Lyu Yue (Aluna), Honorary Chair of the  "Light from China" Organizing Committee, held multiple roles—as founder of Fashion Design at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Chairperson of IFAN, fashion art curator, fashion designer, and contemporary artist. Her bond with Paris was quietly forged many years ago. In 1999, entrusted with a significant mission, she represented China for the first time at the "99 Paris-China Cultural Week Fashion Exhibition" held in France, captivating the audience with her work Auspicious Day. The masterful use of traditional Chinese elements in the piece seemed to plant the joy and blessings of the East deep in the hearts of the French public. China Fashion Report praised it as “showing the world the unique charm of Chinese fashion design,” while she contributed an article to People’s Daily to share, in depth, the valuable insights gained from this cross-cultural exchange. This was not only a key moment for Lyu Yue (Aluna)s emergence on the international stage but also firmly established her as a pioneer in China’s fashion industry.

Traditional culture had always been the spiritual foundation of Lyu Yue (Aluna)'s creations. Ancient concepts of yin and yang and of time and space, the freehand imagery of traditional ink painting, classic color structures, and diverse combinations of materials were all integrated into her work. As Lyu Yue (Aluna) pointed out: “Tradition is not a specimen in a museum, but a living cultural organism that can grow; cultural inheritance must integrate creativity and modernity.”

The curatorial team selected classic works from different stages of Lyu Yue (Aluna)'s creative journey, aiming to clearly outline her artistic growth: from her early committed exploration of design art concepts to her current deep concern and sense of responsibility toward society. Each exhibit was a 'milestone' on her artistic path, documenting her pioneering efforts and steadfast dedication to the industry.

  Development Dialogue

A Collision of Ideas Anchored the Direction of Fashion and Cultural Integration

图片

The Sino-French Fashion Art and Cultural Development Dialogue, which served as the academic core of the Art Week, was held as scheduled on the special occasion of the 10th anniversary of the International Fashion Art Network (IFAN). The forum was chaired by Professor Ji Jing, Deputy Director of the Fashion and Textile Design Department at Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts. Six cross-disciplinary experts from China, France, and Germany engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as 'Cross-Cultural Integration of Fashion and Art' and 'Contemporary Transformation of Traditional Crafts,' building a bridge for East-West intellectual dialogue. The participants (in order of speaking) were: Alexis Doutriaux, Principal of ISAL; Huang Siyun, IFAN Council Member and Ph.D. candidate at the Central Academy of Fine Arts; Françoise Hoffman, IFAN Vice Chair and French artist; Xiong Yi, IFAN Council Member and Ph.D. candidate at Minzu University of China; Sarah Siewert, IFAN Vice Chair and German artist; and Wang Xinyuan, IFAN Council Member and Ph.D. candidate at the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

At the closing of the forum, Professor Lyu Yue (Aluna) , Chairman of the IFAN and doctoral supervisor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, delivered the concluding speech. As the Honorary Chairman of the Light from China Organizing Committee, she first conveyed a congratulatory letter from Professor Keum Ki Sook, the founding Chair of the Korean Alliance: “I extend my sincere greetings to all artists and wish the exhibition great success.” She then distilled the core of the forum: “Today we have witnessed the journey from contemporary interpretation of intangible cultural heritage to the sustainable rebirth of denim, from the vision of the Eastern metaverse to dialogues on haute couture futures. This is not only a clash of ideas, but also a resonance of deep cultural fusion between China and France. I look forward to today’s exchange becoming a seed that will nurture more cross-disciplinary creative collaborations in the future.”

This two-hour forum not only showcased the most cutting-edge ideas and practices in contemporary fashion art, but also pointed to a shared consensus: when fashion, art, and technology are deeply integrated, and when Eastern and Western civilizations engage in sincere dialogue, we will surely weave together a future that is more inclusive, sustainable, and full of creativity.

This grand event, which blended Eastern aesthetics with a global perspective, not only created a space for deep dialogue through the "Interweaving the Future — 2025 Paris Fashion Art Biennale," and “ "Entre Ciel et Terre" — Lyu Yue (Aluna) but also set a benchmark for industry innovation through the presentation of six major awards. As the brilliant starting point of Art Week, the opening ceremony successfully laid the foundation for the series of activities over the following five days and heralded a continuous surge of creative sparks and opportunities for collaboration across the fashion and art scenes of China, France, and beyond. This Eastern narrative, which began along the banks of the Seine, is poised to continue writing new chapters of cultural dialogue through ongoing exchange and inspiration.

As Professor Lyu Yue (Aluna) remarked in her closing summary: "This art week is not a one-way cultural export but an equal dialogue between civilizations. When Suzhou embroidery meets French embroidery, when digital technology awakens traditional symbols, Eastern and Western fashion are together writing a new chapter in aesthetics." With the continued cultivation of the "Light from China" brand, Chinese culture was using fashion as a bridge to shine with a more enduring radiance on the international stage.
